Mark Gillett

Professor Emeritus Mark R. Gillett received his B.A. in Mathematics/Computer Science (Cum Laude) in 1975 from the College of William and Mary, his Juris Doctor (Magna Cum Laude) in 1977 from Arizona State University, and his LL.M. (Taxation) in 1982 from New York University. He practiced in Muscatine, Iowa, focusing primarily in the areas of taxation and estate planning. In 1987, he joined the faculty at the University of Oklahoma, College of Law, where he taught Wealth Transfer Tax, Wills and Trusts, Estate Planning, and Fiduciary Income Tax.

In 1983, Mark and his wife, Libby, began developing a DOS based program that prepared Federal Estate Tax Returns. FET was published in 1985 before many law firms were computerized. With the help of Konrad Schmidt, the Gilletts subsequently wrote FATE (Fiduciary Accounting for Trusts and Estates), FGT (Federal Gift Tax Returns) and FIT (Fiduciary Income Tax Returns).

Konrad Schmidt

Dr. Konrad Schmidt received his BS degree in Computer Science in 1976 from Iowa State University, his MS degree in Computer Science in 1990 from Texas A&M University, and his Doctorate in Computer Science in 2003 from Colorado Technical University. He held a variety of programming and systems analyst positions with companies including Shell Oil Company and Bandag, Inc. Subsequently he formed his own computer consulting firm that was well regarded by clients such as IBM and John Deere.

Since 1988 he has been primarily devoted to the development of estate management software. He was instrumental in the success of FATE (Fiduciary Accounting for Trusts and Estates), FIT (Fiduciary Income Tax), EPA (Estate Practice Assistant), and IEP (Intuitive Estate Planner).

Kelly Bruns

Kelly Bruns received her B.A. in Psychology and Political Science in 1984 from the University of Minnesota, and her Juris Doctor in January of 1991 from William Mitchell College of Law. Upon graduation, she practiced in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the areas of Insurance Defense and Workers Compensation Law.

Starting in 1993, she worked for West Publishing with a focus on Westlaw. Later, Kelly began working closely with Mark Gillett and Konrad Schmidt in connection with their Estate Practice Systems which consisted of FET (Federal Estate Tax), FATE (Fiduciary Accounting for Trusts and Estates), and FGT (Federal Gift Tax). EPS was the DOS predecessor to the current Gillett Estate Management Suite. Kelly joined Gillett Publishing in 2005 when Mark and Konrad first published GEMS. Since their time together at West Publishing and for over 25 years, Kelly has been instrumental in the design and support of GEMS.

Jake Weber

Jake Weber received his B.S. in Computer Science, Economics (Highest Distinction) in 2018 from the University of Virginia, where he studied Cloud computing. He has worked as a Software Engineer at technology companies such as Appian and Google, working in various subject domains such as data center energy efficiency, SmartHome/IoT, and low code application development.


Gillett Publishing LLC was formed in 2005 to publish and support estate administration software.   Its primary objective is to deliver the highest quality software to tax professionals at a reasonable price.  By remaining a small, independent publisher, the members believe they can better anticipate and more quickly react to customer requests and market needs.
