The Gillett Estate Management Suite (GEMS) was developed by Mark R. Gillett and Konrad Schmidt. Between them, they have over 40 years of experience developing estate management software. GEMS includes three components: GEM706, GEMAcct, and GEM709. GEMS is only sold as a suite. You cannot purchase the components individually. Gillett Publishing LLC has released those state modules shown above. Additional state modules will be added in the future.

If you were familiar with the authors‘ highly regarded DOS programs originally published in the mid 1980‘s, you will immediately recognize an old friend. GEMS has retained the Main Menu structure which serves as a road map to the program‘s operation. However, the programs have been completely rewritten to take full advantage of the Windows operating environment. GEMS has blended all of the Windows functionality with the ease of use for which their DOS programs were widely known.

GEM706 is a comprehensive estate tax return preparation program that handles all aspects of the preparation of the Federal Estate Tax Return. The Internal Revenue Service issues Form 706 on an annual basis, usually in late summer. GEM706 automatically performs interrelated calculations where federal estate tax or state death taxes are payable out of marital or charitable bequests. It also aids in perfecting special use elections as provided in IRC §§2032A and elections to defer estate taxes attributable to closely held business interests as provided in IRC §§6166.

GEMAcct prepares trust accountings and estate accountings that comply with the National Fiduciary Accounting Standards. GEMAcct employs a double-entry accounting system to accurately portray the financial condition of the trust or estate while dramatically simplifying data entry so the user can enjoy the benefits of a double-entry system without possessing an accountant‘s expertise.

GEM709 is a gift tax return preparation program that completes the Federal Gift Tax Return. The Internal Revenue Service issues Form 709 on an annual basis, usually in December.
